Entrepreneurship Development Program at Gulgam, Kupwara
An Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) was organized at Gulgam, Kupwara, from 17th December 2022
to 22nd December 2022, under the sponsorship of the Development Commissioner (DC) Handicrafts, Ministry
of Textiles, Government of India. The program aimed to empower artisans and individuals from the
handicraft sector with entrepreneurial skills to help them transition from traditional craftsmanship to
sustainable business practices.
The six-day program included a series of interactive sessions and practical workshops, focusing on the
following key areas:
Business Fundamentals: Training participants on business planning, financial management, and
understanding market dynamics.
Marketing Strategies: Teaching innovative marketing techniques, branding, and leveraging digital
platforms to reach wider audiences.
Government Schemes and Support: Providing detailed insights into various government schemes and
financial assistance programs available for artisans and entrepreneurs.
Skill Development: Enhancing participants' technical and design skills to produce market-ready products.
Networking Opportunities: Creating a platform for artisans to connect with industry experts, buyers, and
stakeholders in the handicraft sector.
The program was attended by a diverse group of artisans, young entrepreneurs, and women seeking to
establish their own businesses. Expert speakers and trainers from the field of entrepreneurship and
handicrafts shared valuable knowledge and practical tips with the participants.
By the end of the program, participants gained confidence and practical tools to set up and manage their
businesses effectively. The initiative emphasized the importance of innovation, sustainability, and
self-reliance in the handicraft sector, aligning with the vision of empowering rural artisans and
promoting entrepreneurship in the region.
This program marked a significant step towards building a resilient artisan community in Kupwara,
fostering economic growth, and preserving the rich heritage of Kashmiri handicrafts.
